KAMPALA – ENTEBBE EXPRESSWAY

The proposed New Kampala–Entebbe Highway forms a crucial part of Uganda Government’s overall strategy for de-congesting Kampala through construction of an inner beltway comprising the Kampala Northern and Southern Bypasses as well as an outer beltway along the edges of the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA).

The project is located in the Mid – South region of Uganda, starting from Kampala city and ending at Entebbe airport. The development of this project will comprise construction of a 4 – lane dual carriageway of;

  1. 37.23km road connecting Kampala North Bypass at Busega with the existing Kampala – Entebbe road at Abayita Abababiri; and
  2. 14.13 km road connecting Munyonyo through Lweza with New Kampala – Entebbe Highway Project.

ICS have been contracted by Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) to undertake technical due diligence of the design (geometric, pavement, structures, drainage, signage, etc) proposed by a Design and Build Contractor and determine key cost drivers.

Based on the design review and value engineering audit, the Consultant made proposals for overall project design improvement/optimization, required works quantities, revised cost estimates, acceptable design departures, etc for the project. A risk and sensitivity analysis were also undertaken on the project cost drivers to determine the pessimistic and optimistic fair value for undertaking the project works to the standards specified in the employer’s requirements.

The road is currently under construction and expected to open to traffic in 2017.
