KAMPALA SOUTHERN BYPASS

ICS has undertaken the feasibility study and
detailed engineering design for a new road south
of Kampala to form part of Kampala Southern
Bypass to compliment the current North Bypass
in alleviating congestion in CBD.

The project comprises of a divided 4-lane 17km new road with over 12 km of road traversing through swamps and elevated on a via duct and allows connection to junctions through 4 interchanges and Roads over Bridges for links and expected partly to be fenced to allow limited access with lighting and provisions for toll plazas if the choice to toll is adopted.

The Southern Bypass is intended to provide a section of high standard road which, in conjunction with the forthcoming Kampala - Entebbe expressway project, will provide a complete bypass of the southern zone of Kampala city. Indeed, together with the Northern Bypass, and its upcoming improvements, the entirety will form a complete city outer ring road.

Services rendered include:

  • Multicriteria economic evaluation, risk analysis, road safety evaluation, traffic surveys and modelling using SATURN
  • Preparation of Resettlement Action Plan including
    socio-economic surveys and public consultations
  • Detailed topographic, geotechnical, and hydrological surveys including materials source studies
  • Detailed highway and bridge design including toll plaza
    studies and layout design
  • Environmental Impact Assessment
  • Preparation of land acquisition schedules and plans
