Project Background
In order to mitigate traffic congestion within the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA) many projects and studies have been carried out. Among them, JICA conducted the Preparatory Survey on the Greater Kampala Roads Improvement Project in 2013 and 2014.
The Feasibility study concluded that the construction of two flyovers at Kitgum House
and Clock Tower Junctions respectively, widening of Mukwano Road and improvements of interfacing roads and junctions would be effective and feasible to achieve the traffic congestion mitigation objective. The proposals of the Feasibility Study also considered improvement of traffic safety for non-motorized transportation (NMT).
Objective of the Project:
Under this project, resettlement / compensation was likely to arise due to the acquisition of the land along the road especially where it was being widened. It was determined that the area to be affected included the proposed Road Reserve as well as other needed areas such as at the working zones.
Acquisition of properties, perennial crops and structures did constitute part of the compensation value due to the fact that a number of crops/trees and structures were found to be within the Road Reserve and these would be affected by the road development activities. The main objectives of this RAP are:
Scope of work:

Its total length is approximately 3.5km. Other ancillary components of the Project consist of
